Report Your Service Hours!

The Glazer Center for Leadership & Service oversees the university's central community reporting system for San Diego State University. Students should report all volunteer hours through our online Community Service Reporting Form.

Community Service FAQ

Community service generally involves contributing time and effort to organizations or initiatives that benefit the broader community, typically on a non-compensated basis. This can include volunteering with nonprofits, participating in service-learning courses, organizing donation drives, or tutoring without pay. Activities must benefit the public good and cannot be for academic credit alone (unless part of a service-learning class).

Yes! You can report all community service work completed since enrolling at SDSU. Just be sure you put the correct dates when submitting the form!

We celebrate SDSU students who make a difference through community service. When you report your service hours, you become eligible for special recognition at our annual Glazer Center for Leadership & Service End of Year Celebration.
Recognition levels include:

  • 50 Hours: Certificate of Service
  • 100 Hours: Community Service Lapel Pin and Digital Badge
  • 300+ Hours: Community Service Graduation Cord

Service hours are cumulative throughout your time at SDSU—there is no time limit to reach these milestones, as long as you are a currently enrolled student when you report.
Want to see what our service milestone awards look like? Visit our Get Rewarded for Your Community Service website.

The community service reporting form never officially closes, so you can report your service hours year round! If you would like to be recognized for achieving the 50, 100, or 300+ hour milestone, you must report your service hours by Sunday, April 11, 2026.

Any SDSU student, faculty, or staff member who engages in community service can report hours. Student organizations and service-learning classes are also encouraged to submit group hours and can do so by emailing [email protected] with the course or organization name and total number of hours completed.

You can submit your hours through the online reporting form available on the Report Your Community Service Hours page. Be prepared to include the name of the organization, a description of your service, and the total number of hours served.

Unpaid internships can count as service hours, but paid jobs or internships will not count as service hours.

All you need to report your service hours is the name of the organization, date of service, and a brief description of the activities. You will also need the name and contact information of your point of contact at the organization. This can be a specific person or the general volunteer contact information.

Yes! As long as the activity benefits a community and meets our guidelines for community service, you may report hours completed anywhere in the United States or internationally.
